During my many years as an investigative poet I have dabbled in 'renga' (as I've known it) with various friends and students. So here is a helpful essay by David Gerard, famous for his thousands of Issa translations and his Daily Issa.

My recent essay on one of Issa’s renku that was published in the British journal Presence, is now available online. Enjoy:

A quote from a site how to get a daily dose:

Daily Issa There are two ways to receive a random haiku by Issa every day.

by email:

  • send a blank email to: dailyissa-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
  • look for a reply (check your Spam folder)
  • open the reply and hit "send" (simply reply with no message)

That's it. You might receive a message inviting you to join Yahoo, but you can ignore this if you want. If you don't receive a haiku within 24 hours, check your Spam folder and indicate that the Daily Issa is legit.

A reading by Derek Beaulieu

An extremely interesting conversation with a multi-disciplined and creative soul on the Canadian poetry scene! Plain speaking on trciky aesthetic questions.
