I have a lot of time for Dennis Potter. Did you ever see his final interview with Melvyn Bragg just a few weeks before his death? It was so uplifting. At the time his main focus was on completing his final two plays Karaoke and Cold Lazarus, which I had the chance to revisit a couple of months back and I was pleased to see they worked every bit as well as when I first saw them at the time. I wish there were more TV dramatists of his ilk. Jack Rosenthal managed to hang on another ten years but most of the rest of Potter's generation buggered off to do films the first chance they got. At least we have Stephen Poliakoff flying the flag for TV drama and it looks like he'd sticking with it. We could use a few more like him. That and a few more openings in the schedules for one-off dramas.
