First Drafts: Gary Soto's 'Talking to Myself' and 'Sunday Without Clouds'
Well, I've always valued other poets' drafts. It is intriguing to see how they go about their business. When I started out, I thought the poems came easily out of the blue into the poet's mind and cleanly on to the page. Not so. Some of my poems have indeed come that easily - but they are the extreme minority! So, take a look here at these, then track some more down. If you pay good attention to them, you can see why and what the poet does. http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2011/06/first-drafts-gary-sotos-talking-to-myself-and-sunday-without-clouds/241077/
