In partnership with Brisbane Square Library, Queensland Poetry Festival's Co-Director David Stavanger presents two dynamic voices in this monthly performance & poetry event.
September is a very special COUPLET as it is co-presented with Brisbane Writers Festival and features an interstate and international guest, Andy Jackson (Melb) and Ivy Alvarez (NZ).
Andy Jackson’s poetry collection Among the Regulars (papertiger 2010) was shortlisted for the Kenneth Slessor Prize and Highly Commended in the Anne Elder Award. He won the 2013 Whitmore Press Manuscript Prize with the thin bridge, which was published in 2014. His poems have widely publsihed here and overseas. In 2009, Andy and performer Rachael Guy won the M...ost Innovative Work award at the Overload Poetry Festival for their poetry-puppetry collaboration Ambiguous Mirrors. He has performed at literary events and arts festivals in Australia, India, USA and Ireland, and has run creative writing workshops since 2011. Andy has the genetic condition Marfan Syndrome, and writes about the poetry of unusual bodies at amongtheregulars.wordpress .com
Ivy Alvarez is the author of two poetry collections: Disturbance (Seren Books, 2013) and Mortal (2006). A recipient of writing residencies from MacDowell Colony, Hawthornden Castle and FundaciĆ³n Valparaiso, her work appears in journals and anthologies in many countries, with individual poems translated into Russian, Spanish, Japanese and Korean.
